Chapter 6
The Unseen Hand
The enemy's identity remained a mystery, their motives unclear. Were they rivals, or something more organized? The uncertainty fueled the fear, adding another layer to the trauma. This unknown enemy changed everything.
The air used to crackle with a different kind of energy, a hum of pure, unadulterated power that radiated from us, from Alvin and me, from Lashawn and the rest of the crew. We were an unstoppable force, a constellation of brilliance that burned brighter than any star in the urban sky. They called us the number one crew, and they weren't wrong. We were untouchable, invincible. It felt like we’d carved our names into the very bedrock of this city, a testament to our grit, our cunning, our sheer refusal to be anything less than kings. The streets knew it, the whispers of our exploits a constant anthem. Even the gang task forces, the wolves in tailored suits, wanted us. They wanted to cage us, to dim our light, but we were always too quick, too smart. We danced in the shadows, always ten steps ahead, a phantom presence they could never quite pin down. We were prepared for anything, or so we believed. We thought we had the world, and every threat it could conjure, figured out.
But then, the moon, that silent, indifferent observer, decided to play its own game. It wasn't a rival gang, not a street beef gone sour. It was something else, something that felt like it dropped from the heavens, a devastating blow from an enemy we never saw coming. It was a betrayal of the natural order, a disruption of the carefully balanced ecosystem we’d mastered. The ground beneath our feet, the solid foundation of our perceived invincibility, cracked and gave way, swallowing us whole. The memory of that moment, the sheer, blinding shock of it, still wakes me in the dead of night, my heart pounding a frantic rhythm against my ribs.
We were so sure of ourselves, so confident in our ability to navigate the treacherous currents of our lives. We’d outmaneuvered the law, outsmarted our enemies, and built a reputation that echoed through every alley and avenue. The thrill of the chase, the constant dance on the edge of danger, was our lifeblood. We lived for the adrenaline, the feeling of being alive when others were merely existing. And Alvin, my little brother, was the fiercest embodiment of that spirit. He was the embodiment of our strength, our unwavering resolve. He was the shield, the wall, the one who’d stand between me and any threat, no matter how great. If you had a problem with me, you had a problem with him, and that was a problem you didn’t want. He was a force of nature, a whirlwind of loyalty and protection, and I leaned on that, took it for granted, perhaps.
