Alvin was more than just my little brother; he was my shield. He was the embodiment of fierce loyalty, a living, breathing testament to the fact that if you messed with me, you were picking a fight with him, and that was a fight nobody wanted. He was the toughest protector I’d ever known, a force of nature that stood between me and any trouble that dared to surface. The streets knew it, the gangs knew it, and even the damn cops, I’m sure, knew it. They wanted us, alright, wanted us bad, but they also knew that getting to me meant getting through Alvin first. And that was a monumental task, a challenge few were brave or foolish enough to attempt. He was my shadow, my right hand, my unwavering backup in a world that rarely offered second chances. The memories of him are etched into my soul, a constant reminder of a bond that ran deeper than blood, a connection forged in the crucible of survival.

We were a unit, Alvin and I, and Lashawn was right there with us, a vital part of that tapestry. We were on top of the world, or at least, our world. The number one crew, they called us. And we believed it. We were untouchable, invincible, dancing on the edge of danger with a confidence that bordered on arrogance. We’d outsmarted them, outrun them, outplayed them for so long, it felt like we had some kind of divine protection. We were always ten steps ahead, or so we thought. We anticipated every move, every potential threat, every whisper on the wind. We were prepared for anything, anyone. We’d built our empire on that preparedness, on our ability to see the storm coming before the first drop of rain fell. We were the masters of our domain, and the streets bowed to our will.

But then, the moon, as if it held some ancient, malevolent secret, coughed up an enemy we never saw coming. It wasn’t a rival gang with a score to settle, or a disgruntled associate looking for revenge. It was something else, something that struck with a devastating blow, a force so unexpected, so alien, it shattered our carefully constructed reality. It was like the ground beneath us simply vanished, and we tumbled into an abyss we hadn’t even known existed. The invincibility we wore like a second skin was ripped away, leaving us exposed, vulnerable, and utterly unprepared. The blow was so sudden, so complete, it left us reeling, gasping for air in the wreckage of our former selves.
