The air in the cavern was thick with the scent of damp earth and something acrid, like burnt sugar. Elara shivered, though not from the chill. The memory of her magic, that vibrant, humming thread that had always connected her to the world, being ripped away, left a hollow ache deep within her. Beside her, Finn’s brow was furrowed in concentration, his fingers tracing invisible patterns in the air as he muttered incantations under his breath. Leo, his normally boisterous energy subdued, stood as a silent sentinel, his gaze fixed on the shadowy recesses of their makeshift hideout.

“Are you sure about this, Finn?” Elara’s voice was barely a whisper, a thin reed against the roaring silence that had replaced her magic.

Finn looked up, his blue eyes earnest. “It’s the only way, Elara. He’s too powerful for a direct assault, especially now. We need to get you to your mother, and we need to buy ourselves time.” He paused, a small, hopeful smile touching his lips. “Besides, it’s a bit of a gamble, and you know how I love a good gambit.”
