The air inside the wizard’s fortress was thick with a silence that pressed against Elara’s ears, a suffocating blanket woven from centuries of dark magic and despair. It was a stark contrast to the usual hum of the world, the rustle of leaves, the distant song of birds, even the crackle of her own magic that had once felt as natural as breathing.
