The air crackled, not with the familiar hum of burgeoning magic, but with a chilling, stagnant dread. Elara stood at the edge of the clearing, a hollow ache where her power used to sing. Finn and Leo were beside her, their faces etched with a mixture of grim determination and a shared, unspoken fear. The wizard, an obsidian silhouette against the bruised twilight sky, loomed in the distance, his laughter echoing like shattered glass. He had taken so much, not just the villagers, not just Elara’s magic, but the very light from their world.
“He’s too strong, Elara,” Leo murmured, his voice rough with emotion. He clutched a gnarled staff, his knuckles white. “We can’t fight him like this.”
Finn, ever the strategist, scanned their surroundings. “We don’t have to fight him head-on, not yet. He’s expecting a magical assault. But we’re… different now.” He glanced at Elara, his gaze a silent question, a plea.
