The air thrummed with a desperate energy, a stark contrast to the suffocating stillness that had held the village captive for so long. Elara, her heart a frantic drum against her ribs, pushed through the shimmering, icy barrier that had imprisoned her mother. It shattered with a sound like a thousand tiny bells, releasing a wave of warmth that chased away the unnatural chill. Her mother stumbled forward, her eyes, though weak, finding Elara’s with a fierce, unwavering love.

"Elara!" Her mother’s voice was a ragged whisper, a sound Elara hadn't realized how much she’d missed until it filled the space around them.

Elara rushed into her mother’s arms, clinging to her as if she were the only anchor in a storm-tossed sea. The scent of lavender and old books, her mother’s familiar comfort, filled Elara’s senses. For a moment, all the fear, all the despair, all the crushing weight of her powerlessness, receded. Here, in her mother’s embrace, she felt a flicker of something akin to peace.
