The air in the hidden grove was thick with a silence that pressed in on Elara, a heavy blanket woven from unspoken fears. The vibrant greens of the ancient trees seemed muted, the usual cheerful chirping of birds conspicuously absent, replaced by a low, mournful hum that vibrated in her bones. She traced a pattern in the damp earth with a twig, the rough bark a familiar, grounding sensation against her fingertips. Finn sat beside her, his gaze fixed on some distant, unseen point beyond the canopy, his usual quick wit replaced by a thoughtful stillness. Leo, ever the restless one, was pacing a small circle nearby, his broad shoulders hunched as if carrying a weight far heavier than his usual boisterous energy.

“I don’t think I can do this,” Elara finally whispered, the words barely disturbing the quiet. The confession felt like a physical ache in her chest, a brittle thing she’d been holding onto for too long. She looked up at Finn, her eyes pleading for understanding. “Without my magic… I’m just… empty. Like a shell.”

Finn turned his head, his brow furrowed with concern. He reached out, his hand hovering for a moment before gently resting on her arm. His touch was warm, steady, a silent reassurance that sent a faint tremor through her. “Elara, don’t say that. You’re not empty. You’re… you. And that’s more than enough.”
