Noeh’s heart hammered against his ribs like a frantic drum. Each desperate breath he clawed from the air felt thin and ragged, doing little to quench the searing fire in his lungs. The ground beneath his bare feet was a blur of dusty earth and tangled roots, a treacherous carpet that threatened to trip him with every frantic stride. Behind him, the roar of the lion was a physical force, a guttural sound that vibrated through the very soles of his feet and echoed in the hollows of his bones. It was a sound of pure, unadulterated hunger, a promise of swift and brutal finality.

He dared not look back. He knew, with a certainty that chilled him to his core, that the lion was gaining. Its powerful legs, built for speed and savage grace, were devouring the distance between them with terrifying ease. Noeh, though his spirit was willing, was no match for such raw, primal power. His legs, accustomed to the slow, deliberate pace of his days, felt clumsy and weak, his strides too short, his endurance already waning. He ran as he had never run before, fueled by a primal fear that stripped away all thought, leaving only the desperate, instinctual urge to flee.

The familiar trees, once his comforting companions, now seemed to mock him with their stillness. Their branches, usually reaching out like welcoming arms, now appeared to form a dense, impenetrable maze, each twist and turn a potential dead end. He stumbled, his ankle twisting painfully on a gnarled root. A sharp cry escaped his lips, a sound swallowed instantly by the lion’s renewed roar, closer now, so close he could almost feel the heat of its breath, the savage intent radiating from it.
