The air in the healing chamber hummed with a low, resonant energy, a stark contrast to the frantic chaos that had preceded it. Sunlight, filtered through stained-glass panes depicting ancient fae battles, painted shifting mosaics across the stone floor. I knelt beside the cot, my hands hovering inches above Kael’s chest. His skin, usually a canvas of deep, intriguing shadows, was pale and marred by the lingering tendrils of Daxton’s poison. Each shallow breath he took was a testament to his resilience, a quiet defiance against the darkness that had tried to claim him.

My own breath caught, not from exertion, but from a sudden, startling clarity that bloomed in the quiet space between heartbeats. A moonlit clearing, the scent of night-blooming jasmine, and a pair of eyes, the color of a storm-tossed sea, gazing into mine with an intensity that felt both ancient and utterly new. And a name. Kael. The whispered utterance escaped my lips before I could censor it, a soft exhalation that seemed to vibrate with a forgotten promise.

His eyelids fluttered, a slow tremor that spoke of a spirit fighting its way back from the brink. When they finally opened, those storm-tossed eyes met mine, and for a breathtaking moment, the world outside the chamber ceased to exist. There was a flicker of recognition, a deep, soul-stirring awareness that transcended our current circumstances. It was as if a veil had been lifted, revealing a truth I had long suppressed, a truth woven into the very fabric of my being.
