The air in the healing chamber was thick with the scent of crushed herbs and the low hum of residual magic. It clung to my skin, a constant reminder of the task at hand, and the impossible knot of fear and something akin to exhilaration that had taken root in my chest. Kael lay before me, his breathing shallow, his skin pallid beneath the grime of battle and the lingering taint of Daxton’s magic. Each breath he drew was a victory, a testament to the fragile life I was fighting to preserve.

“A little more of the Moonpetal infusion,” I murmured, my fingers steady as I dripped the opalescent liquid from a delicate vial into his parched mouth. He stirred, a faint tremor running through his limbs. His eyes, when they fluttered open, were the color of a stormy sea, clouded with pain but still holding that flicker of defiance I’d come to know so well.

“Trinity,” he rasped, his voice a dry whisper. His hand, surprisingly warm despite its weakness, reached out, his fingers brushing against mine. A jolt, electric and undeniable, shot through me. It was a confirmation, a silent promise that this feeling, this dangerous, intoxicating connection, was real.
