The air in the café, usually a comforting blend of roasted beans and sweet pastries, now felt thick, almost suffocating. Each clink of a spoon against ceramic, each murmur of conversation, seemed to amplify the thrumming anxiety beneath my skin. Aryan’s words, though spoken softly, had landed like stones, shattering the fragile peace I’d managed to build. "You don't understand the kind of world I live in, Ramila," he’d said, his eyes, usually so full of a captivating fire, now held a chilling depth I couldn’t decipher. Aryan stood between me and my attacker, his face a mask of cold fury. The man, dazed and bleeding from a split lip, scrambled to his feet and fled, disappearing into the throng of oblivious art patrons. Aryan turned to me then, his eyes scanning me, searching for any sign of harm. "Are you alright?" he asked, his voice tight with a controlled rage that was more terrifying than the assault itself.
