The air in the Parisian café was thick with the scent of roasted coffee and the murmur of hushed conversations. Sunlight streamed through the tall windows, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air like tiny, golden fairies. I traced the rim of my teacup, the porcelain cool against my fingertips, a stark contrast to the warmth that had begun to bloom in my chest. It had been five years. Five years since I’d last seen him, five years since his world had abruptly fractured and pulled him away, taking a piece of my own with him.
And then, there he was. Aryan. Not the boy I remembered, but a man carved from shadows and polished by power. He sat across from me, his gaze as intense as I recalled, a silent storm brewing behind those dark eyes. The initial shock of our reunion had long since subsided, replaced by a bewildering mix of relief and apprehension. He’d found me, after all this time, in this city so far from the dusty streets of Nepal.
“You’re… different,” I finally managed, the words feeling inadequate, small against the vastness of the years that separated us.
