Chapter 11
The Price of Power
Ramila is taken, a victim of Aryan's world. Her abduction ignites a brutal war within the criminal underworld, as Aryan unleashes his fury to get her back.
The air in the opulent Parisian apartment, usually a sanctuary of hushed elegance, now vibrated with a frantic energy. My hands shook as I clutched the worn fabric of my dress, the silk feeling alien and suffocating against my skin. The silence that had descended after the phone call was a deafening roar, each tick of the grandfather clock in the hall a hammer blow against my already fractured composure. Aryan’s voice, usually a low rumble of controlled power, had been a raw, desperate plea, a sound I’d never thought I’d hear from him. “They have her, Ramila. They have *you*.”

Abducted. A pawn in a game I was only just beginning to comprehend.
My mind raced, a frantic carousel of images and fears. The hushed conversations I’d overheard, the veiled threats whispered in the shadows of Aryan’s life, the flicker of something dangerous in his eyes that I’d tried so hard to ignore. It was all coming back to me, a chilling premonition I’d pushed aside in my desperate hope for a normal life, for a love untainted by darkness.
