The air in the royal conservatory hung thick with the scent of damp earth and the faintest, almost imperceptible, perfume. It was a fragile aroma, a whisper against the encroaching chill that had begun to seep into the very stones of Aethelgard. Outside, the sky was a bruised twilight, a perpetual state of dusk that mirrored the unease settling upon the kingdom. Fear, a subtle but persistent vine, had begun to twine itself around the hearts of the people, fed by the shadows that stretched longer each day and the hushed rumors of the Weaver’s insidious machinations.

Within the glass walls, however, a different kind of growth was taking root. Nicholas, his brow furrowed in concentration, knelt beside a small, unassuming pot. Elena, her silver light a gentle aura around her, watched him with a tenderness that was a balm to his weary soul. The pot held not soil, but a carefully prepared mixture of moon-dusted loam and the tears of a fallen star, a concoction Elena had painstakingly gathered over weeks. Within it lay a single, almost invisible seed.

“It feels… fragile,” Nicholas murmured, his voice a low rumble that vibrated with a suppressed tremor. He traced the rim of the pot with a finger, his touch surprisingly gentle for hands that had been forced to wield such destructive power. The memory of the Shadow Dragon’s fury, the raw, untamed energy that still pulsed beneath his skin, was never far from his thoughts. It was a constant hum, a reminder of the darkness he carried, and the precarious balance he sought.
