The familiar chime above the door of "August's Awesome Scoops" was a comforting sound, a sweet melody that had been the soundtrack to August’s summer. But now, it was more than just a sound; it was a victory bell. The scent of waffle cones, sugar, and a hint of salt from the ocean breeze, once just the everyday perfume of her family’s business, now carried the faint, lingering aroma of resolution. August slid a scoop of her signature "Ocean Breeze" mint chip into a sugar cone, the vibrant green a stark contrast to the pale blue of the sky outside.
“Another one for the heroes of the boardwalk!” a voice boomed from the line. It was Mrs. Gable, her face wreathed in a smile as wide as the boardwalk itself. She’d been one of the first to hear the full story, her knitting needles practically flying as August recounted the tale of Silas Croft’s smuggling ring, Captain Finnigan’s brave (and silent) ordeal, and the unfortunate tourist who’d mistaken a tainted batch of rival gelato for a delightful treat.
August offered a polite smile. “Just doing our part, Mrs. Gable.”
