  5. 5Echoes in the AtticSearching for answers, Lily explores the dusty attic. She finds an old, ornate jewelry box containing a faded photograph and a cryptic, rhyming riddle that hints at something hidden.
  6. 6The Garden's ClueFollowing the riddle's poetic hints, Lily investigates the overgrown garden. She discovers a loose stone near an old oak tree, revealing a small, tarnished locket.
  7. 7A Father's DistractionLily tries to ask Mr. Sterling about the peculiar door. He seems distant, his gaze unfocused, and quickly changes the subject, offering her a tour of his study instead.
  8. 8The Library's Secret ShelfInside Mr. Sterling's study, amidst the towering bookshelves, Lily notices a book slightly ajar. Behind it, she finds a hidden compartment containing a small, velvet pouch.

  12. 12A Whispered ConversationLily overhears hushed voices from her parents' room. They speak of 'the condition' and 'keeping it hidden,' confirming her suspicions that something is indeed wrong.
  13. 13The Velvet PouchLily opens the velvet pouch from the study. Inside, nestled on soft lining, is a single, gleaming yellow key. It matches the color of the mysterious door perfectly.
  14. 14The ConfrontationArmed with the key, Lily confronts her adoptive parents. She questions them directly about the yellow door and their strange eyes, demanding the truth about her new family.
  15. 15A Glimpse of the PastOverwhelmed, Mrs. Sterling admits their eyes are affected by a rare condition. She reveals the yellow door leads to a room containing records of their family's history and unique medical treatments.
  16. 16Unlocking the MysteryWith trembling hands, Lily inserts the yellow key into the lock. The tumblers click, and the door swings open, revealing a room filled with glowing vials and old journals.
  17. 17The Glowing VialsInside the room, Lily sees rows of glowing vials. Her parents explain these contain a unique serum that helps manage their condition, but it has side effects, including the vacant stare.
  18. 18A Shared SecretLily learns the condition is hereditary. Her parents had hoped to protect her from it, but the journals reveal a potential cure, one that might also be linked to her own past.
  19. 19The Truth of Her OriginsThe journals detail Lily's biological parents' research into the condition. They left her with the Sterlings, hoping she would be safe and perhaps find the cure they were close to discovering.
  20. 20A New UnderstandingLily looks at her adoptive parents with new eyes. She understands their secrecy and their vacant stares. Together, they decide to continue the research, hoping to find a brighter future.
