The generator gives each plot a person, goal, obstacle, reveal, and personal cost. Those relationships matter more than the exact events. If a beat feels generic, keep its function and replace its surface detail.
A useful plot makes the protagonist choose. At the crisis, succeeding at the external goal should threaten something they value. The ending then shows what they are finally willing to risk or give up.
Expand five beats into chapters
- Opening: 1–2 chapters that establish the ordinary strategy the protagonist uses to cope.
- Disruption: 1 chapter that closes the easy route back.
- Midpoint: several attempts, followed by a fact that changes the meaning of the goal.
- Crisis: the worst consequence of the old strategy.
- Ending choice: action that proves what has changed.
