The storm had retreated, leaving behind a hushed world washed clean. Raindrops still clung to the leaves of the enchanted garden like tiny diamonds, and the air smelled of damp earth and awakened blossoms. I sat on the moss-covered bench, the parchment from my parents clutched in my trembling hands. The storm’s fury had been a tempest outside, but the tempest within my heart was only just beginning to settle, leaving a strange, buoyant calm in its wake.

The letter. It was more than just words on paper; it was a lifeline, a whispered promise from a past I barely remembered. Their love, so vivid and potent, poured from the elegant script. Each word was a tender caress, a reassurance that even in their absence, their affection was a tangible force. They spoke of my childhood, of laughter shared and dreams nurtured, painting a picture of a life so full of warmth that it felt like a fairy tale, a stark contrast to the grey existence Aunt Mildred had imposed.

“My dearest Fifi,” the letter began, their familiar voices echoing in my mind, “if you are reading this, then a chapter has closed, and a new one is about to unfold. Do not grieve for us, little star. Our love is not a thing that can be extinguished by the accidents of life. It is woven into the very fabric of your being, as enduring as the ancient trees in our garden, as bright as the stars you loved to watch.”
