Chapter 11
Hampton's Gambit
Using his military experience, Hampton devises a bold counter-strategy to protect a convoy of vulnerable haulers, turning the Ironmule into a symbol of defiance against OmniCorp.
The starlight bled across the viewport, a smear of distant suns against the inky black. Admiral Hampton, or rather, Captain Hampton of the TSV Ironmule, traced the faint constellations with a calloused finger. Disgrace had a way of stripping away the gilded epaulets and the weight of command, leaving only the raw, unvarnished man. And the man, he’d discovered, still knew how to fight. Not with fleets and torpedoes anymore, but with grit and ingenuity, and a ship that was as stubborn as he was.

Maya, her brow furrowed in concentration, tapped at her console. Her fingers danced across the holographic displays, a ballet of light and data. “Still quiet, Captain. Too quiet. It’s like the Hyper Highways are holding their breath.” Her optimism, usually a bright beacon, was dimmed, tinged with the same unease that settled like dust in the Ironmule’s cargo bay.
