Sirijus adjusted the strap of his worn leather satchel, the weight of it a comforting, familiar presence against his side. Beside him, Kael, his brow furrowed in a mixture of curiosity and apprehension, scanned the dense foliage that pressed in on either side of the barely-there path. The air hummed with a strange, almost musical energy, a stark contrast to the sterile quiet of Sirijus’s laboratory. Kael, the whirlwind of practicality, had been Sirijus’s hesitant shadow, his initial skepticism about the ‘unseen forces’ Sirijus spoke of slowly melting away with each strange occurrence they encountered.
“Are you sure about this, Sirijus?” Kael’s voice was a low rumble, cutting through the chirping of unseen insects. “This forest feels… different. Like it’s holding its breath.”
Sirijus nodded, his gaze fixed on a patch of moss that seemed to shimmer with an unnatural luminescence. “That’s precisely what I mean, Kael. The energy here is… amplified. It’s like the very fabric of reality is thinner, more responsive.” He paused, a thoughtful smile playing on his lips. “It reminds me of those fluctuating market graphs, remember? Small shifts, big ripples.”
