Chapter 7
A Shared Dream
During a late-night conversation, Samantha and Gregory realize they've both been having recurring dreams, filled with imagery that feels strangely familiar and connected, though they can't pinpoint why.
The night had settled over Elm Street like a soft, velvet cloak, muffling the usual sounds of the neighborhood into a gentle hum. Inside Samantha’s cozy living room, the remnants of their shared meal – a scattering of plates, a half-empty bottle of wine – spoke of a conversation that had flowed as easily as the wine itself. The lamp on the side table cast a warm, amber glow, illuminating the comfortable silence that had fallen between them, a silence rich with unspoken understanding. Gregory, sprawled on the sofa, his gaze fixed on the flickering embers in the fireplace, seemed lost in thought. Samantha, curled in her favorite armchair, watched him, a familiar pang of something akin to longing stirring within her.
“It’s funny, isn’t it?” she began, her voice barely a whisper, as if not to disturb the fragile peace of the moment. “How much we’ve both changed, and yet… how much feels exactly the same.”
Gregory stirred, his eyes finding hers. A slow smile spread across his face, a smile that reached his eyes and crinkled the corners. “I was just thinking that. It’s like we’re picking up where we left off, even after all these years.” He paused, then added, a touch of wistfulness in his tone, “Though I’m not sure I’m the same person you remember from Elm Street.”
