The last echoes of their frantic scramble faded, leaving behind a silence that felt heavier than the dust. Then, the ground beneath Pablo began to hum, a low thrumming that vibrated up through his sneakers. He looked at Old Paint, whose ears had swiveled forward, catching the subtle shift. Glint, perched on Old Paint’s broad back, let out a tiny gasp, its luminous eyes widening like twin moons.

“What is happening?” Glint whispered, its voice a reedy chime lost in the growing rumble.

Old Paint snorted, a nervous puff of air, as the earth heaved. Not a violent upheaval, but a deliberate, majestic unfolding. A structure, grand and ancient, began to rise from the soil. It shimmered, not with the harsh glare of sunlight, but with a soft, inner luminescence. Its walls were not of rough stone, but of something smoother, like polished obsidian, etched with intricate carvings that pulsed with a warm, ethereal light. The darkness that had clung to the edges of their world seemed to recoil, pushed back by this sudden radiance. This wasn't just a building; it felt like a sanctuary, a place that had been waiting.
