The world outside the iron bars was a ghost I barely remembered, a dream I’d once had but couldn’t quite grasp anymore. Six months. Six months of the same gray walls, the same stale air, the same hollow echo of my own heartbeat. Each tick of the clock was a hammer blow, chipping away at the hardened shell I’d built around myself, revealing the raw, quivering nerve beneath. They called it a reckoning, a consequence. To me, it was just… waiting. Waiting for the dust to settle, for the tremors of the life I’d lived to finally cease.

He was there, beside me, his shadow a familiar weight, a dark comfort I’d clung to through the storm. We were a single entity then, two souls fused by fire and desperation, our fates so tangled that separating them seemed an impossibility. We’d fallen together, a spectacular, shattering descent, and now we sat in the wreckage, the silence deafening. The clang of that cell door hadn't just slammed shut on our freedom; it had sealed us in a tomb of our own making, leaving the world outside to spin on without us.
