My parents, Yuji and Nobara, moved around me like ghosts, their faces etched with a grief I couldn’t fully comprehend, a grief that mirrored my own raw, untamed fury. The sorcerer world, a place I’d only just begun to understand, had shown me its darkest face, and in its reflection, I saw myself, a force capable of both creation and destruction.
The weight of it all pressed down on me, a suffocating blanket woven from fear, responsibility, and a burgeoning power that felt both exhilarating and terrifying. I was David, the boy who had once worried about homework and getting a date with Kiki. Now, I was David, the strongest sorcerer in the world, a title that felt heavier than any backpack I’d ever carried. The organization, those faceless shadows who had stolen Kiki and threatened my family, were still out there. And they wanted me.
“David,” Nobara’s voice, usually a sharp, bright spark, was soft, laced with a weariness that chilled me. She knelt beside me, her hand resting on my arm, her touch a grounding force in the swirling chaos of my mind. “You need to eat something.”
