The air in Lyra’s stone chamber was thick with the scent of dried herbs and something else, something ancient and unsettling. Ubbe traced the worn symbols etched into the parchment spread before him, his brow furrowed in concentration. Lyra sat opposite, her eyes, like pools of dark water, fixed on the flickering flame of the oil lamp. The blight had begun as a whisper, a subtle decay in the heart of his vast lands, but now it gnawed at the edges of his world, a tangible sickness that seeped into the very marrow of his pack. He had faced many challenges, but this felt different, a darkness with intent, a malevolent will.

“These markings,” Ubbe began, his voice a low rumble, “they speak of a hunger. A deep-seated resentment.” He pointed to a spiraling symbol that seemed to writhe on the page. “It feels… familiar, yet utterly alien.”

Lyra nodded, her gaze never leaving the parchment. “The Ravenwolf lineage has always been a beacon, Ubbe. And beacons cast shadows. This hunger you sense is the shadow of a forgotten pact, a bitterness born of perceived betrayal.”
