Chapter 4

The Editor's Hand

The realization slams into Evan with the force of revelation: he is not merely witnessing this unraveling, he is *causing* it. The patterns are a key, and the theater is the lock. He feels an instinctive pull, a desire to reshape the fractured reality around him. With a mental nudge, he wills a splintered prop to mend itself, a fallen tapestry to reascend. The Jester, its porcelain face cracking under the strain, recoils. "You... you are reading them," it stutters, its voice a broken record. Evan, a strange calm settling over him, corrects, "No. I'm editing."
