The applause had fractured, then evaporated, leaving a void so profound it pressed against Evan's eardrums. Mara’s hand, a desperate anchor on his sleeve, trembled with a silent, shared dread. Center stage, the Jester, a mockery of merriment with its cracked porcelain grin, flickered. Not a spark of life, but a stutter, a digital anomaly in the fabric of its being.

“...Act…” The whisper was a broken record, a snag in the grand performance. “…Three…”
