Chapter 11

The Audience's Descent

The unified audience, a single entity moments before, fractures into a thousand individual moments of confusion and despair. The programmed masks, meant to represent a collective emotion, now feel like prisons. Some claw at them with desperate, tearing fingers, seeking escape from the shared delusion. The sudden, jarring silence had been the first crack in the illusion. Now, the fractured audience became a testament to the unraveling. What had moments before been a unified mass, breathing as one, responding as one, now splintered into a thousand distinct and terrifying expressions of panic. The masks they wore, once a symbol of their collective engagement, their shared experience, now felt like suffocating cages. Another, who had worn the grinning mask of a fool, now stumbled backward, tripping over a splintered seat, his arms flailing uselessly. The programmed responses, the mirrored emotions that had bound them together, had vanished. They were adrift, each individual consciousness a tiny, lost island in a sea of chaos.
