She found him pacing the ornate throne room, his usual regal bearing now a coiled spring of raw anger. His face, typically a canvas of benevolent authority, was contorted with a grief so profound it threatened to shatter the very stone beneath his feet. The golden embroidery on his tunic seemed to mock the darkness that now clouded his features.
