Zek grapples with feelings of insignificance. The fear of their voice being unheard intensifies, casting a shadow over their purpose and artistic drive.
The ink, once a lively river, had dwindled to a hesitant trickle, then a dry, cracked bed. Zek sat by the window, the late afternoon sun slanting across the worn pages of their notebook, illuminating not verses, but blankness. The familiar ache of unformed thoughts, once a fertile ground for creation, now felt like a barren wasteland. It had been weeks since a true spark had ignited, weeks since the Muse, that capricious whisperer of truths, had graced their ear. Instead, a different kind of whisper had begun to insinuate itself, a cold, sibilant doubt that coiled in the quiet spaces of Zek’s mind.
It was the whisper of insignificance.
The world outside continued its relentless hum: the distant rumble of traffic, the chirping of sparrows in the eaves, the muffled laughter of children playing in the park. Each sound, once a potential seed for a poem, now felt like a testament to a vibrant existence that Zek was failing to capture, failing to even touch. They watched a leaf, loosened by an unseen breeze, spiral downwards, a fleeting dance of descent. Was that it, then? A brief, beautiful arc, and then… nothing? A forgotten thing, lost to the earth. The thought settled, heavy and suffocating.
