Chapter 6
A Perilous Path
Guided by the owl's cryptic words, Luna and Skye set off. Their journey begins through dense thickets, facing natural obstacles that test their budding trust.
The forest floor, usually a riot of emerald moss and fallen leaves, felt brittle beneath Luna’s paws. Each step was a conscious effort, a prayer against the encroaching silence. The owl’s words, though wise, had painted a stark picture: the dream of the valley, the magical bones, the fading forest. It was a weight heavier than any fallen branch, a responsibility she hadn't asked for but now carried with the grim determination of a seasoned hunter. Beside her, Skye moved with a fluid grace that Luna, despite her own agility, envied. Skye’s curiosity, so evident in their first meeting, seemed to have sharpened into a keen awareness, her ears swiveling, her nose twitching, taking in the very essence of the woods that was slowly, insidiously, dying.
"It’s… quieter than I remember," Skye murmured, her voice barely disturbing the hushed air. "Even the birds seem to sing with less spirit."
Luna let out a low growl, a sound of agreement and frustration. "The magic is draining. The owl said the bones are the heart of it. If we don't find them…" She trailed off, the unspoken consequence hanging heavy between them. The thought of her home, her pack, her entire world, fading into nothingness was a gnawing fear she kept buried deep, a secret weakness she couldn't afford to show. Not now. Not when Skye was looking to her, her bright eyes filled with an unwavering optimism that both soothed and unnerved Luna.
