Chapter 8
A Glimmer of Hope
Trapped, Noeh closes his eyes, a silent prayer escaping his lips. He trusts in his faith, a faint hope flickering amidst the overwhelming fear of the beast.
Noeh’s heart hammered against his ribs like a trapped bird. The mighty roar, once a distant tremor, now vibrated through the very soles of his bare feet, a terrifying symphony of impending doom. He stumbled, his worn tunic snagging on a thorny bush, the sharp pricks a fleeting distraction from the thunderous pounding of paws gaining on him. Every instinct screamed for him to run faster, to push his weary legs beyond their limits, but the lion was a blur of tawny fur and raw power, a relentless force of nature that seemed to mock his desperate flight.
He risked a glance over his shoulder. The lion was close, impossibly close. Its eyes, like molten gold, fixed on him with a chilling intensity, and a low growl rumbled in its chest, a sound that promised nothing but pain. Panic, cold and sharp, clawed at Noeh’s throat, threatening to choke him. He could feel the heat radiating from the beast, smell the musky scent of its wildness. There was nowhere left to hide, no escape. The dense forest, which had always been his sanctuary, now felt like a cage, the trees closing in, their branches like grasping fingers.
His breath hitched, ragged and shallow. He was no match for this magnificent, terrifying creature. His years of quiet contemplation, his gentle wisdom, his unwavering faith – what good were they against such primal ferocity? He was just a poor man, living under a tree, his only possessions the tattered clothes on his back and the unshakeable belief in a power greater than himself. And now, that belief felt like a fragile shield against a charging storm.
