The Guardian forces Elara to relive her fall. The forgotten transgression is revealed: she defied a celestial decree to protect a mortal, an act of love deemed heresy.
The air thrummed with an ancient power, not the biting cold of the void Elara had known, but a warmth that pressed against her very soul. The Guardian, a being of pure light and shifting form, loomed before her, its presence vast and immeasurable. It had spoken, its voice a chorus of starlight and the sigh of ages, and now, Elara found herself not in the heart of the promised oasis, but adrift in a sea of memory, a swirling vortex of forgotten moments.
The desert faded, replaced by the shimmering grandeur of the celestial city. Towers of crystal pierced a sky impossibly blue, and rivers of pure light flowed through its ethereal streets. Elara, in her former glory, stood tall, her wings a cascade of opalescent feathers, her heart alight with a joy she hadn't felt in eons. Beside her, a mortal child, no older than the twelve summers she dimly recalled, clutched her hand. The child’s eyes, wide with wonder and a flicker of fear, mirrored Elara’s own nascent unease.
"They are afraid," the child whispered, his voice thin as gossamer. "The others. They say I do not belong."
