Seajay's Desperate Plea
Seajay, trapped by Rayan's threats, attempts to reach Romero. Her message is one of fear and a desperate, fractured plea for help, revealing her own vulnerability.
The dial tone hummed a hollow, metallic song in my ear, a stark counterpoint to the frantic pounding of my heart. Each ring felt like a hammer blow against my sanity, a desperate countdown to a fate I couldn't bear to imagine. Rayan’s words, a venomous hiss laced with the unmistakable scent of menace, replayed in my mind. “He’s a loose end, Seajay. And loose ends get tied up. Permanently.” My hands trembled, the cheap plastic of the phone slick with sweat. I knew, with a certainty that chilled me to the bone, that if Romero didn’t answer, if he didn't understand… this would be it. For both of us.
Finally, a click. A breathless pause, then a voice, my Romero’s voice, laced with concern. “Seajay? Is that you? You sound… you sound terrified.”
Tears welled, hot and stinging, blurring the dimly lit room around me. I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to gather the shattered pieces of myself, to form a coherent thought, a coherent plea. “Romero,” I choked out, the name a lifeline, a prayer. “Romero, you have to listen to me. You have to believe me.”
