The air in the abandoned warehouse hung thick with the stench of decay, a cloying perfume of rust and forgotten things. Each breath felt like swallowing dust. I pushed myself up, a groan escaping my lips as a searing pain shot through my side. My head throbbed, a persistent drumbeat against the silence. The last thing I remembered was Seajay’s eyes, wide with a terror I’d never seen before, and the sickening thud of something heavy against my skull. Then, darkness.

Now, the darkness was all around me, broken only by slivers of moonlight that pierced the grimy windows high above. My hands, sticky with drying blood, fumbled for my phone. Dead. Of course. They’d made sure of that. Rayan. The name coiled in my gut like a viper. He’d done this. He’d brought me here, to this place of ruin, and left me to rot.

But Seajay… her face swam before my eyes, etched with a desperate plea. Was she forced? Was this her way of trying to save herself? Or had she truly betrayed me, handing me over to this monster? The thought was a shard of ice, piercing the last vestiges of my hope.
