Remembering the turtle's words, Lily focuses her thoughts, channeling the wonder and joy she feels for the garden. Her imagination becomes a beacon of calm.
The water churned, a restless grey, and the wind whipped Lily’s hair across her face. She could hear the distant rumble, a low growl that vibrated through the sand beneath her bare feet. The playful waves that had tickled her toes just moments before now surged with an unsettling power, their crests laced with a frothy white anger. Fear, a cold, sharp thing, pricked at the edges of her mind. The sea creatures, usually so graceful in their ballet, darted with frantic energy, their vibrant colors a blur against the darkening water. The coral garden, so recently a sanctuary of glowing peace, seemed to tremble under the rising fury of the storm.
She remembered the old sea turtle’s words, his voice a deep, comforting murmur against the roar of the waves. “The ocean’s spirit is vast, Lily, and within it, you too are vast. Your joy, your wonder, your courage – these are the currents that can calm the wildest seas.” His ancient eyes, wise and steady, had held a promise, a truth that now felt like a distant echo.
Lily closed her eyes, the salty spray stinging her cheeks. The familiar pull towards the ocean, the one that had drawn her beneath the waves, now felt different. It wasn’t a lure into mystery, but a call to responsibility. She thought of the anemones, their delicate tentacles swaying nervously, of the darting schools of fish, their scales flashing like panicked jewels. She thought of the old turtle, his wise, patient presence suddenly feeling fragile against the storm’s might.
