The Choice of Trust
Elara hesitates to complete the sealing ritual. The creator of the artifact, Lira, appears and reveals that Thorne's information is incomplete. Elara makes an unexpected choice—offering only her trust, not her life or purpose—which halts the ritual and causes the realms to separate slowly over a day. Thorne dies. Elara and Kael escape the collapsing chamber and emerge into the Veilwood at dawn, with one day to find a way back to their own realms—or a way to stay together. The sphere shows a path forward, leaving their choice unresolved.
Elara’s hand hovered over the sphere, her breath shallow. The pillar pulsed with half-mended light, waiting. Thorne leaned against the wall, bleeding, his eyes locked on hers. Kael’s fingers brushed her wrist—warm, steady.
“Don’t,” Kael said. “We find another way.”
But the sphere was warm. The seal was waiting. She had started the ritual, and something about it felt unfinished. Like a sentence interrupted mid-word.
