Chapter 14 — The Price of a Choice
The sphere reveals itself to be a nullifier after Elara's cost of memory changed its nature, consuming the Shadow Weaver. A remnant of Thorne appears inside the sphere, explaining he hid the sealing knowledge in her lost memory and offers it back for another price. Elara accepts and returns to the chamber to seal the gate, but Thorne, barely alive, interrupts, revealing the sealing will trap her in the stone forever. She must now choose between self-sacrifice or seeking another answer.
The sphere in Elara’s pack began to hum, a resonant note that vibrated through her bones. The Shadow Weaver’s hand was still raised, its form rippling like smoke against the chamber’s darkness. The black pillar at the center pulsed faster, the red symbols bleeding light onto the floor.
Kael didn’t move. His hands were lit with pale magic, but he held still, waiting. Elara felt the sphere shudder against her back, and she dropped to one knee, unstrapping the pack. She didn’t know why, only that she had to see it.
The moment she pulled the sphere into the open, the chamber went silent. The hum stopped. The pulsing stopped. The Shadow Weaver’s hand froze mid-gesture.
