Elara, with a twinkle in her eye that could rival a mischievous pixie’s, gathered Leo and Maya close. The wooden bead necklace, now safely nestled back around her neck, felt like a familiar friend. Its smooth, worn beads clicked softly as she adjusted it, a gentle rhythm against her faded floral blouse. “Well, my little detectives,” she began, her voice a warm rumble like a contented cat, “you thought it was just a game of hide-and-seek, didn’t you?”
Leo, still buzzing from the excitement of their treasure hunt, bounced on the balls of his feet. “It was the best game ever, Grandma! Even better than when you told us the baker’s cat stole all the jam tarts!”
Maya, ever the pragmatist, nudged Leo gently. “That was a story, Leo. This was… well, it was a bit confusing, but fun!” She looked at Elara, her brow furrowed slightly. “But why did you hide it, Grandma? And then… forget?”
