The air in Elara’s cozy living room hummed with a different kind of magic now, a softer, warmer glow than the frantic chase that had just ended. The wooden bead necklace, nestled once more around Elara’s neck, felt not like a lost treasure found, but like a friend returned, a friend who’d orchestrated the most delightful game of hide-and-seek. Leo, still sporting a faint smear of jam on his cheek from a particularly daring crumb-snatching maneuver earlier, was sprawled on the rug, his eyes wide with a mixture of exhaustion and pure glee. Maya, ever the pragmatist, sat on the edge of the sofa, a knowing smile playing on her lips as she watched her grandmother.

“So,” Leo began, his voice a little breathless, “you meant to lose it, Grandma? You just… forgot you meant to lose it?”

Elara chuckled, a sound like dry leaves rustling in a gentle breeze. She lifted the necklace, letting the smooth, polished wooden beads slide through her fingers. “Well, my dears,” she said, her eyes twinkling, “sometimes the best games are the ones you play with yourself. And then, you invite your favorite people to join in the fun!”
