Chapter 19
New Beginnings
With the immediate threat neutralized, Elias and Stella face an uncertain future. They must decide what 'together' truly means for them.
The air still hummed with the aftermath of the confrontation, a low thrum that vibrated in Elias’s bones. The adrenaline, once a raging torrent, had receded, leaving behind a hollow ache and a profound, almost suffocating stillness. He watched Stella, her profile etched against the pale dawn filtering through the grimy window of their temporary refuge. Stella, younger, her eyes alight with a vibrancy he hadn’t seen in years, her smile a secret shared only with him. The inscription, ‘Stella,’ scrawled on the back in his own hand, a promise or a plea, he could no longer recall.
“Are you… alright?” His voice was a rough whisper, unused to the soft intimacy of the space.
