Stepping through the door felt like slipping into a storybook illustration come alive. My foot barely crossed the threshold before the sounds of the river faded behind me, replaced by a comfortable hush and the soft rustle of leaves overhead. Moonlight—real, silvery moonlight—bathed everything, though I couldn't spot the moon anywhere in the sky. The glen was round, edged with willows whose branches touched the grass like gentle curtains. Crickets sang. Fireflies drifted lazily, blinking in time with my heartbeat.

I stood there, clutching the moonstone leaf. My want was simple: I wanted to understand who I was, why the moonstone knew my name, and where my family might be. But right now, a small problem pressed at me harder than all the mysteries—the worry that, maybe, I didn't belong here at all.

Pip slipped through after me, nose twitching. "Well, what did I tell you? Dreaming door—dreamy glen! Come on, it’s not so scary."
