During the four-day FTL journey, Anya struggles with her growing feelings for Valerius as the entity within him grows restless. A desperate attack forces them to face the entity's true nature, and a discovery on the planet's surface changes everything.
The FTL hum was a constant, low thrum that settled into the bones. I sat in the captain's chair, watching the star-streaked void through the viewport, but my mind was elsewhere. The memory of Valerius's kiss lingered on my lips, warm and unsettling. I had spent years building walls, and in one moment, he had found a crack.
Jax worked at the helm, their fingers moving with practiced ease across the console. They hadn't said much since we jumped, but I felt their gaze on me more than once. Cynical and caring, that was Jax. They saw more than they let on.
"You should get some rest," I said, not turning.
