Chapter 6: The Cost of Closeness
Anya tends to Valerius's wound, deepening their bond as the entity's influence grows. A shared moment of vulnerability leads to a kiss, but the entity attacks, forcing them to flee. They discover the entity is weakening, but Valerius's chest cavity glows, revealing the entity is now anchored inside him, and they must find a way to sever it before it consumes him.
The Stardust's med bay hummed with low light and the faint chemical scent of sterilizing agents. I pressed a clean cloth to Valerius's chest, feeling the heat of his skin through the fabric. The wound from the entity's last assault had stopped bleeding, but the dark veins spreading from it had not receded.
"You're staring," he said, his voice carrying that dangerous music even now.
"I'm assessing." I adjusted the pressure on the cloth, and he inhaled sharply. "Stay still."
