Starla and Leo flee to Maren's house, where Maren reveals she played with the small disc as a child and shows them how to project its holographic map. They then take refuge in the boarded-up Miller estate in Lake Forest, where Starla uses Arthur's journals and schematics to discover the Key is bio-coded to House Vahn-Rhea and trapped in an infinite feedback loop.
The morning sun cast long shadows across the deserted streets as Starla drove, her knuckles white on the steering wheel. Leo sat beside her, his eyes darting to the rearview mirror every few seconds. The siren from the building faded behind them, replaced by the low hum of the engine and the pounding of her own heart.
"We can't go to my apartment," Starla said, her voice tight. "They know where I live. They'll be waiting."
"Your mother's place?" Leo suggested. "She might have answers we're missing."
