The first gray light of dawn was still bleeding into the sky when Starla’s phone buzzed on her nightstand. She had been awake for hours, the disc's faint hum replaying in her memory, the image of her grandmother’s face under a violet sky burned into her mind. She reached for the phone, expecting a text from Leo. Instead, she saw the office security system alert.
“Lyle & Associates – Perimeter Breach – 5:47 AM”
Her blood went cold. She was out of bed and pulling on jeans before the phone buzzed again. This time it was Leo.
