The familiar scent of pine and damp earth filled Elara’s lungs as she walked the winding path towards the old oak. It had been years since she’d last sat beneath its sprawling branches, years since Liam had last walked this path with her, his laughter echoing through the trees. The wooden beads of her necklace, smooth and cool against her skin, felt like old friends, a constant comfort in the quiet hum of the forest. She ran a thumb over the carved patterns, each one a tiny story whispered from the past.

A shadow fell across the sun-dappled ground, and a voice, deeper now but still undeniably familiar, broke the stillness. "Elara?"

She turned, her heart leaping. There he was, standing at the edge of the clearing, a man now, not the boy who had once chased butterflies with her. His eyes, the same clear blue as a summer sky, crinkled at the corners as he smiled. "It's really you."
