The salt spray kissed Elara’s cheeks, a familiar, yet somehow distant, caress. She walked along the shoreline, the sand cool beneath her bare feet, each grain a tiny whisper of the endless journey the ocean took. The village of Port Blossom, nestled between rolling green hills and the vast, shimmering sea, had become her quiet sanctuary. Yet, even amidst the gentle rhythm of the waves and the welcoming smiles of its inhabitants, a knot of sadness still resided deep within her. It was a heavy, silent companion, one she’d carried for so long it felt like a part of her very being.

Marina, her silver hair braided with strands of sea-blue ribbon, sat on her porch, her eyes twinkling like polished sea glass. She was mending a fishing net, her weathered fingers moving with practiced grace. “The sea has a way of washing things clean, child,” she said, her voice like the gentle sigh of the tide. “But some things… some things it holds onto, deep in its heart.”

Elara paused, a question forming on her lips, but it dissolved before it could take flight. Marina always seemed to know what Elara was thinking, what she was feeling, even when Elara herself couldn’t quite articulate it. “Do you think so?” Elara finally managed, her voice soft.
