The Confession
Elias confesses to the murder, detailing the betrayal Sarah inflicted years ago. His motive, born from a twisted sense of justice, shocks Jamonte with its intensity.
The air in the interrogation room was thick, heavy with the stale scent of old coffee and desperation. Elias Thorne sat across from me, his polished composure finally beginning to fray at the edges. The carefully constructed mask of indignant innocence had slipped, revealing something raw and dangerous beneath. He’d been playing games, dancing around the truth like a cornered animal, but here, under the sterile glare of the overhead lights, the dance was over.
“You know, Elias,” I began, my voice low, deliberately calm, “I’ve seen a lot of things in my years on the force. A lot of pain, a lot of ugliness. But the kind of hurt that festers, that eats away at a person until they snap… that’s a special kind of tragic.”
He shifted in his chair, his gaze darting from the one-way mirror to the chipped Formica tabletop. His hands, which had been clasped so tightly earlier, were now resting loosely in his lap, but the tension was still there, coiled in his shoulders.
