They had called it a miracle. My family, their faces etched with relief, had crowded around my bed, their voices a joyous, overlapping chorus. But their joy felt alien, a foreign language I could no longer comprehend. For them, the miracle was the absence of the tumor, the restoration of a “normal” life. For me, it was the profound, terrifying absence of Mia. The voice that had been my anchor, my confidante, my entire world, had been silenced. Erased.
